<h2><strong>Inspection of the crankshaft of Wartsila 8L20 and Observation</strong></h2>
<ol>
<li><span style="font-size: 14pt;">On Initial inspection of the crankshaft it was found that the crankpin number #05 was damaged.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: 14pt;">On further investigation our technicians were surprised to note that the crankpin having standard diameter of 180 MM was already undersized by 2.00 MM and this job was done by a company based in Greece.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: 14pt;">The excessive taper was observed on the crankpin and no radius fillet profile was made by the crankshaft repair company.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Due to the taper in the crankpin number #05 of the wartsila 8L20 crankshaft, the connecting rod was not moving freely and the bearing was developing line marks.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: 14pt;">It was a challenging job for RA Power Solutions technicians to rectify the taper, which was developed due to application of wrong equipment and process by a company based in Greece.</span></li>

<h2><strong>Action Taken By RA Power Solutions to Successfully Repair Wartsila 8L20 Crankshaft and To Save it from Rejection</strong></h2>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;">With our experience of more than 44 Years in repair of the crankshaft, latest design of equipment, and experienced technicians, we were able to successfully repair the crankshaft by under-sizing the crank pin and maintaining the final size of 177.00 MM. The crank pin was undersized by 3.0 mm.</span></p>

<h3><span style="font-size: 18pt;"><strong>Action taken by RA Power Solutions technicians to successfully repair the crankshaft of Wartsila Engine 8L32</strong></span></h3>
<ul>
<li><span style="font-size: 14pt;">The grinding of crankpin no. 06 was initially undertaken to the undersize of 0.5 mm.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: 14pt;">During the joint inspection, a localized damage area was still present on the crank pin diameter. In this situation, it was jointly decided by RA Power Solutions technicians and the chief engineer to undertake the grinding to the next step size of 1.0 mm.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: 14pt;">The grinding was done to 1.0 mm undersize, maintaining the ovality of 0.02 mm. The final dimensional report is pasted below:</span></li>

The vessel due to the failure of a crankshaft of Wartsila 12V32 was at outer Anchorage.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;">RA Power Solutions two technicians boarded the vessel in a short time of 36 hrs as they have valid US VISA and Indian CDC. The crankshaft was inspected for all the major parameters like dimension, taper &amp; ovality, hardness, cracks detection, deflection, and surface finish test, etc.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;">The damage to the Wartsila 12V32 crankshaft was so serious that one crankpin was undersized by 3.0 mm and the final size after grinding and polishing of the crankpin was maintained as 267.00 mm. The balance five crankpins were ground and undersized by 0.5 mm.</span></p>
