<ul>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">The MAK 8 M20 crankpins have a standard diameter of 152 mm and a </span><a href="http://rapowersolutions.com/BlogDetails.aspx?blogname=Crankshaft-Repair-of-Small-Diameter-and-Bearing-Width"><b>crankpin bearing</b></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> width of only 69 mm.</span></span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">The dimensional inspection of all the crankpins was undertaken.</span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">Excessive ovality up to 0.26 mm was observed in all eight crankpins of the engine.</span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">On visual inspection, the radius fillet profile was also found damaged.</span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">Hardness was checked by the portable hardness tester and was observed within limits.</span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">As a matter of routine, the crack detection was done.</span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">No crack abnormality was observed.</span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">Bearing line marks, the rough surface was observed in the case of all crankpins.</span></li>
</ul>
<h3><strong><span style="font-size: 18pt;">Action taken by RA Power Solutions technicians for successful Repair of the crankshaft</span></strong></h3>
<ul>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">All the crankpins were undersized by 0.5 mm.</span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">The important parameters like ovality were controlled within 0.02 mm.</span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">The surface finish was maintained of less than 15 RA value far better than the International standard.</span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">The final readings of crank pins after grinding were as follows:</span></li>
