<h2>Main observations of the crankshaft of Wartsila Vasa are :</h2>
<p>(I) On a visual inspection of crankpin number one, having a standard diameter of 270 mm, it was found to be damaged with deep line marks, pitting, and a rough surface.</p>
<p>(II) The crankpin was subjected to dimensional inspection after cleaning the embedded bearing material. The following measurements were observed for Crankpin Number One:</p>
<p><span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;"><strong>Minimum Diameter</strong>: 269.45 mm</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;"><strong>Maximum Diameter</strong>: 269.89 mm</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;"><strong>Ovality Observed</strong>: 0.55 mm</span></p>
<p>(III) All other crankpins were visually inspected, and no damage or marks were observed.</p>
<p>(IV) As per standard procedure, Crankpin Number One was subjected to a crack detection test using the MPI process, and hardness testing was also carried out. No abnormalities were observed</p>
<p>(V) Crankpin Number One was undersized by <strong><a href="https://rebabbittingbearing.com/blog/2018/06/13/crankshaft-grinding-crankshaft-grinding-machine-grinding-of-crankshaft-crankshaft-grinding-equipment/">on site crankshaft grinding</a> equipment</strong>. The diameter was reduced by 1 mm to control ovality and to remove the line marks observed after the bearing seizure. The final crankpin diameter was maintained as 269.00 – 0.02 mm.</p>

<p>The Auxiliary engine number #02 of MAN B&amp;W 5L 16/24 was stopped due to low air pressure, two of our technicians boarded the vessel and inspected the crankshaft. All Five (5) crankpins having a standard diameter of 130.00 MM had ovality ranging from 0.10 MM to 0.40 MM, which is considered to be on the higher side. The crankpins also had bearing line marks, rough surfaces, and localized damage, as the engine was operated in spite of the problem in the crankshaft.</p>

<p>The hardness and MPI for crack detection was conducted and no abnormality was observed. Technicians started onsite grinding of crankpins were ground ranging from 1.0 MM undersize to 1.50 MM.</p>

<li><span style="font-size: 14pt;">The onsite grinding equipment developed by RA Power Solutions is portable, compact, and lightweight. It can be carried to any installation all over the world as accompanied baggage hence no time is wasted in transportation.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: 14pt;">The equipment is manufactured in two parts and is inserted from the inspection window. It sits on the crank pin diameter and undertakes grinding and polishing.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: 14pt;">The tolerance is maintained as per the manufacturer&#8217;s requirement.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: 14pt;">After polishing the surface finish is improved and can be maintained at less than 15 RA value which is far better than the international standard.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: 14pt;">We have a team of trained technicians available 24/7 hrs and can be deputed on short notice. Some of our technicians also have valid US VISA and can fly to South America, Caribbean countries, etc.</span></li>
