RA Power Solutions is engaged in the onsite repair of crankshafts. We have been serving diesel power plants, shipping companies, and generator installation companies worldwide for over 47 years. With almost five decades of experience in crankshaft repair, we have encountered cases where the remaining allowable limit of crankpins or main journal diameter is very small, resulting in the rejection of the crankshaft, even in cases of minor accidents, damage, or wear and tear.
RA Power Solutions has, in many cases, undertaken the grinding of crankpins and main journals beyond the last limits of diameter suggested by the manufacturer and saved the crankshafts from rejection. One example of our experience is the MAN 8L23/30H auxiliary engine.
We specialize in providing undersized and special-size engine bearings for crankshaft reconditioning, helping restore proper clearances and ensure reliable engine performance.
Grinding of MAN 8L23/30H beyond the last limit suggested by the manufacturer
The MAN 8L23/30H is installed on most vessels as an auxiliary engine. It is one of the most popular auxiliary engines, proven for its excellent performance. In the case of the MAN 8L23/30H crankpin, the standard diameter is 185.00 mm. The manufacturer allows a maximum undersize of 3.00 mm, i.e., the crankpin diameter can be reduced to 182.00 mm.
RA Power Solutions, with its experience, has saved more than 100 crankshafts of the MAN 8L23/30H by undersizing the crankpins by 5.00 mm, i.e., to 180.00 mm against the standard diameter of 185.00 mm.

Availability of Crankpin and Main Journal Bearings | Undersize and Special Size
We maintain a large stock of crankpin and main journal bearings in undersizes beyond the last limits recommended by the engine manufacturers. Some of the popular engine brands for which we have special-size bearings are MAN, MAK, Wärtsilä, YANMAR, Daihatsu, Caterpillar, etc.
A crankshaft crank pin and main journal diameter reaching the manufacturer’s recommended maximum undersize limit does not necessarily mean that replacement is the only option. Depending on its condition and technical feasibility, specialised grinding and the use of suitable undersize or special-size bearings may provide an alternative.
RA Power Solutions has demonstrated this capability through its experience in repairing more than 100 MAN 8L23/30H crankshafts at 5.00 mm undersize, compared with the manufacturer’s recommended maximum undersize of 3.00 mm.
Before rejecting or replacing a crankshaft, contact RA Power Solutions for a technical assessment. Our experience in crankshaft repair and the availability of special-size engine bearings may help identify practical repair solutions, reduce replacement costs, and minimise equipment downtime.
Contact RA Power Solutions to discuss your crankshaft repair requirements and the availability of suitable undersize or special-size bearings.
