    i) Initial Inspection of the MAK 8CM32C Crankshaft

    Due to the repeated failure of the bearings, the client decided to have the crankshaft audited for all major parameters. RA Power Solutions deputed two (2) technicians, along with an onsite crankshaft grinding machine, from New Delhi to Burkina Faso. During the initial inspection, the following parameters were checked and observed.

    a) Dimensional inspection of the crankpins was carried out, and excessive ovality was observed in all the crankpins.

    The readings for all the crankpins are given below:

    b) As per our protocol, all the crankpins were checked for hardness using a portable hardness tester and were found to be within limits.

    c) MPI was also carried out to check for cracks, and no abnormality was observed.

    ii) In-Situ Grinding of All Eight Crankpins  | MAK 8CM32C Engine in Burkina Faso, West Africa

    After completion of the inspection, all eight (8) crankpins were ground onsite by RA Power Solutions’ technicians using a portable in-situ crankshaft grinding machine.

    The grinding operation was carried out with strict control over dimensional accuracy. A step size and tolerance of 0.02/0.03 mm were maintained during the grinding process to achieve the required final dimensions.

    The entire repair was completed onsite without removing the crankshaft from the engine, thereby significantly reducing dismantling requirements and repair time.
