  • MAK 8M20 crankshaft machining and grinding has been undertaken by RA Power Solutions recently. The company has more than forty-three years of experience in onsite crankshaft machining and crankshaft repair. In the case of MAK 8M20, one crankpin was reported damaged. The vessel was at port Nouakchott. Our team of two technicians with a compact, lightweight, and latest design of onsite crankshaft grinding machine was deputed to port Nouakchott.

    • On going through the above major technical details of the crankshaft it can be seen that the crankpin width is as small as 71 mm and it is difficult for the onsite crankshaft grinding machine to be placed on the crankpin diameter for machining.
    • RA Power Solutions has designed a dedicated tooling to undertake grinding of the MAK 8M20 crankpin having a bearing width of only 71 mm.
    • Our team of two technicians inspected the crankpin and observed the ovality of 0.56 mm. The readings are posted below.

    • All the parameters like hardness, MPI, and deflection were observed within limits.
    • Grinding with a portable crankshaft grinding machine was undertaken. The diameter of 152.00 mm was reduced to 151.00 (1.0 mm undersize).

    • The undersize bearing was supplied by RA Power and the engine was successfully put back in operation within 15 hrs of boarding the vessel by our technicians.
