The crankshaft of Wartsila 6R32 was reported damaged by one of our clients based in Dubai. Our team of two technicians traveled to Dubai and boarded the vessel.
Following were the observations and action taken by RA Power Solutions technicians:
- The inspection in detail of damaged crankpin no. 05 of Wartsila 6R32 was undertaken by our technicians immediately upon arrival.
- The ovality of 0.18 mm was observed in crankpin no. 05.
- Bearing line marks due to the seizure of bearings were observed on the crankpin diameter.
- All other parameters like hardness, deflection, and MPI results were observed to be satisfactory.
- Machining of crankpin no. 05 was undertaken to 0.5 mm undersize.
- In this case, the radius profile was observed to be damaged during the initial inspection. This was repaired and the radius fillet profile was maintained as original.
- The complete job from inspection to repair of the crankshaft of Wartsila 6R32 was executed while sailing of the vessel from Dubai Port to Amman Port Jordan.
- We use a specially designed crankshaft grinding machine to execute the repair while sailing of the vessel.
- The machine absorbs the vibration and is capable of maintaining tolerance in terms of taper & ovality within 0.02 / 0.03 mm.
